"Sheila was my personal trainer for nearly a year following the birth of my child. She is truly excellent at what she does. She puts in a lot of time and effort to create workouts that are personalized to your specific goals yet varied enough so you don’t get bored. She can be tough but is always very encouraging. She is one of the most professional people I have ever met, something you will realize from the moment you meet her. I often had an unpredictable work schedule (I was a physician in fellowship) but Sheila, being so committed to her clients’ well-being, understood this and adjusted her schedule so that I would not miss a session. I am sad that I can no longer work with her (I moved out-of-state) but I will always be thankful to her for helping me get stronger and more fit so that I can now keep up with my little one. I recommend Sheila Finn without any reservations. "

When I first met Sheila Finn I was a 39 year-old suffering from back and neck pain. Unfortunately the pain was being driven by structural issues with my discs, meaning there was no "quick fix." Thankfully at this time I was introduced to Sheila by my physical therapist, as the subsequent hours she spent working with and training me ended-up making all the difference.

She started with a comprehensive review of my history and goals, and then developed a very detailed plan to get me there. Critically, along the way Sheila was constantly making adjustments based on my pain levels or other exogenous factors that would have normally thrown me way off-track. And perhaps most importantly she never, and I mean never "mailed it in": Sheila was constantly referencing the goals we'd discussed during that first session the entire time she trained me (which only ended because I moved to New York).

Sheila's subject matter expertise, empathy, professionalism, and punctuality (!) are unmatched. I'm extremely confident she can get you to your fitness goals, regardless of your starting point or structural injuries/issues.  I could not recommend her employ more highly.

I’ve seen it happen three times:  someone working out in a gym where Sheila is training a client takes her aside and asks for her business card.  Her excellence is obvious.  She is not chatting away about her recent weekend escapade, but focusing her attention on whether her client’s shoulders are level or the knee is over the ankle in an exercise she is supervising.  It is the focus on details that sets Sheila apart.  She is an expert in explaining and demonstrating how an exercise should be executed.  She is a mistress of encouragement.  But she is also fixated on the minutiae that will keep a client safe and maximize the benefit of a particular exercise.  Anyone who has the privilege of watching Sheila work with several clients in a row realizes that every training session is completely geared to the individual and their needs.  She has the credentials to prepare patients anticipating or recovering from hip replacement; runners gearing up for a race; teenagers who need weight-loss sessions; or average adults and senior citizens wanting core strength and flexibility.  Every session with Sheila is new.  One is never stuck in a repetitive routine, even if areas of weakness are identified and need to be addressed.  Sheila has the capability to come up with multiple ways to attack a perennial problem.  She is well-versed in yoga and Tai Chi to exercise bands and unstable surfaces to floor machines and martial arts.  She is intelligent, knowledgeable, and professional in every way as well as sensitive.  If a client has a particular ache or pain on a given day, she can let go whatever she has planned and devote herself completely to addressing that need. Sheila is a listener and a healer.  An exercise session is not about her, but about YOU.
